Dr. Gintis has been enjoying retirement since March 2023. When he periodically needs a break from retirement, you may catch him seeing appointments!

I was born and raised in Kinston, NC where I started working at Northside Animal Hospital in high school. A life long Tarheel fan, I got my undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and a MS degree in physiology from that other school in Raleigh. I briefly left the great state of North Carolina to attend veterinary school at Tuskeegee University in Alabama. Returning to the Research Triangle, I began my career working for and learning from Dr. Bobby Sherwood at Sherwood Animal Hospital in Durham.

In 1986, after approaching several bankers, I finally convinced one that Penny Road was not too far from Raleigh to support an animal hospital and opened Swift Creek. In 1997, I opened Lake Pine Animal Hospital in Apex. Both locations have flourished and I am extremely proud of and grateful for the dedicated staff of both hospitals.

I am one of the few NC natives that live in Cary with my wife, Marsha, and my two legged children, Haley and Drew. My four legged children include two Labrador retrievers, Skittles and Wafer (the only members of the family that listen to me), and two lazy cats with politically incorrect names that will not be mentioned here.

Outside of veterinary medicine, I like to read, play golf, and follow the Tarheels and the Hurricanes. In 2005, I became one of the founders of Patriot State Bank in Fuquay-Varina. I guess being turned down by all those bankers had a lasting impression!
